Who would ever have guessed that Petra Kvitova would have a Grand Slam singles title before Carolina Wozniacki. Yet that's the situation today, now that Kvitova is a Wimbledon champ. Kvitova defeated Maria Sharapova in straight sets in the 2011 Wimbledon finals.
Kvitova had never advanced beyond the quarterfinals in any previous Grand Slam. She had only four WTA singles titles in her career entering Wimbledon, to which she brought a No. 7 world ranking.
